Description

This event marks the launch of a major new report by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Wellbeing Economics, the result of a nine-month inquiry exploring how policy can enhance wellbeing without increasing public spending.

The report covers four separate policy areas – labour markets, planning and transport, mindfulness in health and education, and arts and culture – and uses the wellbeing evidence to make substantive policy recommendations in each. It also makes the case for wellbeing to take centre stage as an overarching policy objective, recommending that all parties should set out their approach to wellbeing in their manifestos, and that the government should publish progress against a National Wellbeing Strategy.

In the wake of the last party conferences before the 2015 general election, members of the APPG and a panel of senior policymakers will debate the report’s implications and discuss how the next parliament can move the wellbeing agenda from measurement to action.

The event will be chaired by David Lammy MP, Chair of the APPG on Wellbeing Economics. Confirmed respondents include:

  • Jon Cruddas MP, Labour Policy Review Co-ordinator
  • Jo Swinson MP, Minister for Employment Relations and Consumer Affairs
  • Lord Gus O’Donnell, Former Cabinet Secretary
